The furniture industry faces a pressing challenge: a linear and unsustainable production process that generates massive amounts of waste. In response, this study dives deep into the industry's supply chain, critically examining the fundamental materials used in furniture production.
Challenge
The furniture industry's linear production process generates massive waste, prompting a need for sustainability. The question is: How can we shift to a circular and sustainable production practice? Our project addresses this by exploring organic waste-derived materials to break free from environmentally harmful methods.
Idea
"Emergent Materiality" seeks to revolutionize furniture production by replacing conventional materials with innovative alternatives from organic waste. The goal is to minimize environmental impact, reduce resource extraction, and redefine the industry's cycle for a more environmentally friendly and socially responsible approach.
